The song goes:Bad Ass

“Heathcliff, Heathcliff no one should terrify their neighborhood/
But Heathcliff just won’t be undone playing pranks on everyone.”

Okay…Heathcliff was not terrifying, he was loads of fun. I mean, who doesn’t like pranks? Also, he never discriminated. It says right in the song that he was playing pranks on everyone. The ACLU, NAACP, PETA, etc. should come to the defense of Heathcliff for being the equal opportunity trickster that he was. I think he was just trying to lighten the mood with his hijinks and wound up being misunderstood in the process.

As a child, I was often torn in my allegiances to both Heathcliff and Garfield. Heathcliff was definitely the underdog (undercat?) in this comparison, with the lasagna-loving feline pulling all the headlines. I always felt like I had to pick one or the other. Like, since I was a Heathcliff fan, was I being dishonest with him when I would take in an afternoon viewing of Garfield and Friends? (more…)
